Poverty in the United States

The problem of poverty does not only circumvent on developing countries but also on developed countries as well. In here, the problem lies in a multi-faceted arena that seeks to tackle different societal issues and policy making that increases its prevalence through time. In the United States, one of the fundamental problems linked to the escalation of poverty figures involve drug addiction and abuse among Americans. Due to this, careful consideration must be made not only in combating the said problem but also infusing awareness and legislative campaigns to address the issue.

In addressing the research question, the overall paper shall look into the development of control mechanisms that the government and different non-governmental agencies have put into place to address the problems of drug addiction. These shall then be compared to the poverty rates associated with such factors and whether or not each one have been effective through the years and had it adopted a new dimension towards policing and prevention.

This particular question is related to the field of sociology because it seeks to legitimize and analyze the relevance and effectiveness of different government and NGOs in promoting anti-drug abuse campaigns. Since many Americans who suffer from drug abuse also correlate to being impoverish, it is essential to look at the dynamics that transpires between these parties accordingly (Carson-DeWitt, 2003).

At the same time, it can also determine the value Americans provide in addressing the nature of addiction. Instead of addressing each one, it becomes a source of distinction and prejudice among Americans. More often than not, it creates the barrier towards change and lengthens the gap in creating changes along the way (NPR Online, 2001). That is why, clamoring for change comes from the overall idea of establishing patterns of interaction between the problem and society itself.

In understanding the historical implications associated with the topic, it can be seen that its value and significance rests on the capacity of not only addressing poverty and anti-drug abuse programs comparatively but at the same time creating new dynamics that can strengthen and diversify the process of maintenance. Since the mandates of different institutions especially governments vary according to its leadership, creating a continued drive towards addressing poverty becomes a problem (Open Society Institute, 2006). There needs to be a considerable amount of stimulus that motivates leaders within organizations and groups to take a stand and fight this problem.

Given these idea, different sources can provide the justification for these trends and cater towards finding new directions that can improve the way prohibited drugs is administered to the American public. Though campaigns have been continues towards its emancipation, the media and other sectors continue to become an important facilitator for its continued growth and development (Hearts and Minds, 2007). That is why careful analysis and redefinition of models backed up by legislative mandates must be made in order to combat the rising poverty levels due to drug addiction.

In order to achieve this, mechanisms for interaction, communication, and monitoring need to be made by different agencies and groups who advocate such cause. Under this process, each principle should coincide to a familiar way that people appreciate media and how it influences new directions towards increasing the capacity to create appropriate values and principles in handling life. In essence, it also involves developing new directions that can induce and stimulate patterns that can censor or shield children from the threats of early addiction either from peers or the current forms of media available.
