Do innate gender differences exist

Men and women are different and this paper is trying to show the aspects under which the said difference is based. Men and women have hormonal differences which determine their behaviors and attitudes. They are also reported to process the information differently. The idea of gender difference has been criticized by the gay and feminists who maintain their ground that there is no difference between men and women. They explain that the perceived difference is as a result of socialization in male dominated world. Biologically, there is no difference in sexual abilities and roles in the society.

There are various facts which have been employed to explain the difference between men and women. Sexual mythology and scientific facts are among the facts used to explain the difference. One of the myths raised is that although men and women are different genetically and hormonally, none of them is considered superior over the other. Under this myth, each and every gender has its strength and weakness. Scientifically, hormones distinguish the gender with males possessing high levels of testosterone which is the main cause of dominance in the world. Since women have relatively low levels of testosterone, this results in a natural and biological deviation to less dominant creatures and adopting a more nurturing responsibilities in the society (Rhoads, 2009).

Biological facts support the difference between the male and the female. The first difference between males and females is that females have their menstrual flow after every three or four weeks while males do not experience such. Science further explains that males and females are different from the moment they are conceived. The difference at this level is associated to the chromosomes that carry the genetic material from the father and the mother. Female sex cells have XX chromosomes while males have XY with the Y chromosome being smaller. The Y chromosome in the male sex cells determines the sex of the child to be born and sets in motions the developmental processes that genetically distinguish males from females (York, 2008).

Sexual difference between males and females starts immediately as the fetus starts to develop soon after conception. The sex hormones which are estrogen and testosterones have a greater influence on the characteristics of males and females. The difference becomes evident on the childrens behavior with the males playing with trucks while females with toys. Even though feminists attribute this behavior to socialization, science has proved that boys and girls behavior is influenced by hormones (Chopin, 1894).

Several researchers have conducted studies on what appears to be innate difference between males and females and hormones have been cited to be behind aggressive and nurturing characteristics found in males and females respectively. Generally, males are aggressive and are always ready to fight while females most of the times are involved in grooming and nurturing the young ones. Studies conducted on monkeys showed that when unborn female monkeys are injected with testosterone, they behave differently from their mothers by being aggressive. At developmental level, when a female fetus is exposed to male hormones they behave like tomboys. The androgens have a greater impact on their behaviors and interests therefore they prefer playing with boys toys as compared to the other girls (Sowell, 2009).

Males and females think differently. The human brain is developed depending on the sex therefore there are behaviors which are associated with men or women. The sexual difference in the brain is found in the primitive regions of the brain and also in the higher brain regions. The highest percentage of the nerves is found in the higher brain in the central nervous system which is further divided into two equal hemispheres which are joined together with corpus callosum (Sowell, 2009).

The left hemisphere has the responsibility of controlling language analysis, expression and body movements while the right hemisphere is in control of spatial relationships, facial expressions, emotional reactions and sound tones (Rhoads, 2009). The information is processed differently between the males and the females because of the difference in the size of a brain portion called splenium. Splenium is larger in females than in males and is responsible for brain wave activity. Studies have revealed that women use both the spheres of the brain in solving problems while the male counterparts use only one.

The difference between men and women are also noted in their physical strength and endurance. This difference is found in the genes and hormones of these two different sexes. Studies have showed that a woman posses only 80 of the strength a man of the same weight has. Even though this difference is widely criticized by feminist, it is a fact that females lack the physical strength which might be needed for example in combat soldiers. The fact is further supported by the military designing less stressful training exercises to the female soldiers (Chopin, 1894).

Conclusion
It is very true that there is innate gender difference. The fact is supported physically and biologically. The differences are found in physical strength and endurance, brain development and problem solving,   chromosomal differences in sex cells and finally hormonal influence. As much as radical groups like feminists are determined to erase this fact, it is not easy to compare the two sexes because of the wide differences they posses.
