Christianity beliefs and practices related to sexual behavior

As far as sex is concerned, many married Christians do what they regard as fine for them. If a married couple discovers something more satisfying in sex, they live in guilt wondering whether what they are doing is right. There are certain beliefs and practices the church recommends as far as sexuality is concerned and there are those it is totally against. Christianity for example is totally against same sex behaviors. It also views unrestricted sexual behavior as bondage. It is totally against the teachings of Christian values for a person to either watch pornographic movies or read pornographic materials. Christianity views these things as shameful and sinful acts. Christians believe that pornographic acts distort the life of young people (Dwyer, 1988).

Christians also believe that adultery, premarital sex and compulsive sexual activities are contrary to the will of Gods. Other activities that Christians believe to be against the original purpose of God concerning sex are incest, pedophilia, bestiality, homosexuality among other perversions. It is against the Christian value for somebody to engage in homosexuality. Christians believe that God created Adam and Eve his companion in the beginning of time. Sexual relationships according to Christianity are intended for male and female and not for same sex (Berg, n.d.). Christians also believe it is sinful for a person to engage in sexual activities with the wife or husband of another person. It regards that as adultery and is totally against it. According to Christianity, all spouses are supposed to practice marital faithfulness. No man is supposed to marry more than one wife according to the teachings of the bible. Polygamy is totally discouraged by Christianity. As compared to nonreligious groups, Christians are less likely to engage in adulterous affairs, premarital sex, promiscuity, prostitution and homosexuality.

Christians believe that all marriages should be held in a religious congregation. As stated by Liberated Christians (1997), Christianity is totally against the come we stay types of marriage. According to Christian practices, all marriages are supposed to be presided by a religious leader. Christianity teaches that all sexual activities should be performed by married people. This it believes will help in minimizing cases of unplanned teenage pregnancies. The other sexual practice that the church is totally against is abortion. Christianity acknowledges God as the sole giver of life. No man is supposed to take the life of another person. Abortions according to Christianity are evil and sinful acts before the eyes of God.  The church believes that life should be protected from infancy till that time God the creator takes it away from a person. The church does not allow for castration of people. The church teaches that all those who are castrated will never see the kingdom of God. It is also against the beliefs of Christians for a person to perform masturbation. Self sexual satisfaction is against the teachings of the church. The church believes in respect for both male and female.

According to Christianity, no one is supposed to act in a manner opposite to gender. The church do not recommend for the use of condoms during sex rather it stresses the need for partners to be faithfully and those who are not married to practice abstinence. Christianity greatly upholds virginity. It clarifies the need for youths to maintain sexual purity up to marriage and practice monogamy after marriage. According to the practices and beliefs of the church, none is supposed to marry an underage person (Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance, 2009).
