Management of built environment

Management of built environment means establishment of surroundings created by man through application of architectural technology. The surroundings support human activity such provision of shelter and carrying on business transactions.  In most developed countries, built environment creates a significant environment for human life. This is because it has led to construction of buildings which people do spend their time. This includes schools, workplace, home, market place, recreational facilities and malls. It is also an area that involves the broader aspect of human settlement like suburbs, cities, villages or towns. All this creates a physical environment and on other aspect social environment. The connection of built environment management and social environment exists because these buildings create an environment for social gathering.

The state in more developed countries like United States put a lot of concern in management of built environment because of its implications on human health.  This means that built environment requires a lot of concern and application of high level of management. The management of built environment involves application of principles of economics, environmental sustainability, law, design, management, technology and public policies. All these principles are linked to management of built environment that helps to develop conducive surrounding in urban areas. Technology is applied to meet the current modern requirements of information technology economics is applied to provide requirements of raw materials for architectural works. Architectures must work under the guidelines provided by architectural body to set up structures that will provide good shelter to its occupants.

Management of built environment is a very critical aspect that must be acknowledged when undertaking any architectural work. State in developed countries play a key role of ensuring that all surroundings in the urban centers are up to standard. In the urban centers, a lot of construction is done buildings, infrastructure and other forms of constructions are done annually. All these  are done  through contracts, to ensure that the  structures  are of quality standard, there is  need  of  good  supervision that is  done  through management. This is the role of developed countries that have adequate knowledge and power of supervision. More developed countries provide adequate supervision of architectural works to ensure that good structures are developed. Developed countries are very much concerned about built environment in other nations. There main aim is to enhance quality structures that promote industrialization and expansion of urban centers.

Built environment involves construction of artificial structures by application of human power or resource. The structures provide a surrounding that provides help to other users in production, business and capitalization. In this  aspect, the structures  are treated  as  organisms because  they  consume  resources, helps  in production to  give  out put and finally there  is  disposal  of  waste. These common elements or aspects of built environment therefore, call for intensive management. This is the main reason why state in developed countries has a lot of concern in built environment. The major role among them is utilization of resources and disposal of waste. Resources are very limited especially during this period of economic challenges. This calls for good use of all forms of resources so as to minimize wastage. The  role  of  developed  countries  in this  aspect  is  by coming  up with policies and  strategies that provide  guidelines  on how to  limit  wastage of resources. The condition of the environment is very important especially to developed countries whose people spend a lot of time indoors. Housing condition and disposal of waste should be very much okay to provide good living conditions and to eliminate disease contamination factors.

Problem of private ownership of land and buildings and the role of state in developed countries
The role of developed countries in relation to built environment has been very much instrumental to handle the issue of private ownership of land and buildings. The ownership of land and building in urban or rural area has been a thorny issue. The mode of ownership sometimes is very controversial due to issues of corruption and power. Construction of buildings has led to poor structures that risk the health of its occupants. The role of developed countries to address this issue has made it possible for many urban dwellers to survive in the cities.

Urban built environment has also contributed to pollution of air and water. This has led to spread of diseases at a high rate leading to death. Emission of gases from manufacturing plants and poor waste disposal methods contributes very much to health of individuals. Developed countries are very much concerned about these activities and their role is very important. Holding of conferences, enlightenment of  people about  impacts of  air  pollution and advising other developing nations  about the impacts of air pollution has changed lifestyle of many individuals. Therefore, the role of state in developed countries in respect to management of built environment and ownership of land and buildings is very strong. The state should always be on the forefront to enlighten other key players in this field.
