How HIVAIDS affect the black Community
The problem of HIVAIDS in the community remains one of the most disturbing issues in the society. Analysts indicate that the problem has far reaching effects not only to the infected persons, but also to the whole social-economic and political outset. Though infection rates have gone down in the last five years, the numbers are still very high with about half of the total infections occurring among the black community (Sandra and Juan, 2010).
Objective of the study
To explore the reasons why there is still a larger percentage of HIVAIDS disease cases in the African American community.
Data and data collection procedures
This study will be conducted on a sample of 100 black men between the ages of 25-44 in the City of Chicago. This city is considered an effective area of study due to its high black population. Notably, both primary and secondary data collection methods will be employed to further anchor higher results validity.
To effectively collect the data, the researcher will administer questionnaires to then selected individuals in the sample. The questionnaires will contain particularistic questions on the possible causes of the disease in relation to historical barriers such as access to services, the role played by beliefs, various perceptions, existing myths, and social cultural issues related to the disease. Then, the respondents will then answer the different questions and submit them back to the investigator for analysis. Secondary data on the other hand will be collected from the existing literature in the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
To facilitate easier later analysis of data, the questionnaires will be structured using the Likert Five Point scale and then recorded in tables for easier comparison. These procedures are considered to give enough data for replication because the selection of the sample and their response will be highly unbiased.
Data analysis procedures
As indicated earlier, the investigator will code the data given by the respondents using the Likert Five point scale which facilitate the ability to assess the extent of each variable in causing the infection of HIVAIDS (Keith, 2005).). As a result, the data for analysis will be coded on the basis of the respondents views on the possible causes of the different factors in promoting the disease progression among the black community. Besides, response to every question will be categorized separately for all the respondents and displayed in columns and rows for further comparison. Then SPSS data analysis software will be used to analyze the displayed data and the results displayed in graphs, percentages and polygons.
The investigator will seek to increase internal and external validity of the study by carefully designing the questions to cover a wide range of response by the sample. The respondents will be selected on a volunteer basis and the expectations as well as importance of the study clearly explained to them. Besides, the same questions will be used for all the 100 respondents and conducted in the same area during the research period.
Ethical issues
The ability to observe high ethical considerations in a study is very critical in facilitating precision of data given by the respondents (Repko, 2008). To achieve this, all the researchers identified in the sample will not be required to provide their names in the response questionnaires. Besides, the identity will further be omitted from all the reports made from this study. To add to that, any information that can lead to possible identification of the participant, their occupations or specific areas of residence will also be omitted.
To protect the results from the study, the investigator will include copyright requirements for the people who may want to have access to it. Particularly, the users will be required to get express permission from the investigator after conviction that the results will be used only for positive purposes. Besides, copying and editing protection software will be used to prevent alteration of the results from the study. This will be very critical in creating the correct niche for invoking the need of latter studies on the topic.
