Answer Question

In the Strategic Model of family therapy I like certain aspects and approaches like it is a therapy where the therapist initiates what happens during therapy, designs a specific approach for each persons presenting problem, and where the therapist takes responsibility for directly influencing people. I like this therapy because it lays emphasis on each and every client specifically.

I equally like live supervision, whereby beginning therapists learn the art and skill of this new way of doing therapy by practicing in front of a one-way mirror, supervised by a team that assists the trainees in how to be most effective at helping clients to solve problems. I like this therapy because the involvement of mirror brings an element of fun and thus make it playful.

I also prefer that we should not argue with, minimize, or challenge clients. Even if the client says something that is obviously distorted, do not attack or challenge their views, as we likely push them to face something they are not ready to face, and tell them in effect that therapy is about being pushed to face unpleasant things. I like this therapy because it involves sensitivity as well as a huge amount of understanding of the psychology of the client. Any problem can be treated only after knowing the client well and by maintaining hisher dignity and self respect.

Part of this model which I am most likely to integrate into my own unique brand of family therapy is that we should not argue with, minimize, or challenge clients. It helps people tie family problems to life stages in intact and alternate family organizations.

The aspect of this model which I am least likely to incorporate into my approach to family therapy isMRIwhere families make common-sense but misguided attempts to solve their problems. The solution selection as well as its success is governed by system rules. The attempts go awry and the result is a positive feedback loop that makes the problem worse. They are not interested in long term change, insight, or what function the symptom serves in the family only problem focused behavioral change is important. The focus should always be towards removing the problem of the client to the core. If the problem is tackled just at the superficial level only, it always persists. Therefore the client is always in the problem. Better understanding of hisher core issues are must.
