Descriptive Research Article Second Generation Immigrants in California

The article is about the second generation immigrants in California written by S. Katchick Ramakrishnan and Hans. P. Johnson. This article came from the journal, California Counts Population Trends and Profiles volume 6, no. 4 published on May 2005. The article is comprised of twenty (20) pages. The research questions include what are the demographic structures, racial, ethnic compositions, comparisons between the first and second generations and percentage of second generation. The methods used for this research are unobtrusiveresearch and secondary researches.  The advatage of unobtrusive is that the presence of researcher does not affect the data. It allows study of senstive situations and events that occurred in the past or in widely scattered places.  On the other hand, the disadvantage is that the assessment of the validity of the data can be difficult. The variables  used in the research the origin of second generation (fathers place of birth, second-generation immigrants as percentage of the regions pupolation, percentage of distribution of educational attainment and percentage distribution of English proficiency, by race, ethnicity and immigrant generation. The theoritical orientation used  is functionalist because each of the variable has its own function which contributes to the completeness of the research. In this research, the relevance of the second generation of immigrants has great positive impact in the California as a society especially in the states policy making. This research concludes that for most political and civic activities, the second-immigrants have higher rate of participation than first generation citizens.

Explanatory Research Article
Mens Concerns With Sex and Health in Personal Advertisements

The title of the report is Mens Concerns with Sex and Health in Personal Advertisement which is written by Voon Chin Phua, Joseph Hopper and Obed Vazquez published in the Culture, Health and Sexuality Journal in 2002. This particular report is a 20-page explanatory research article. As its hypotheses, it posed that in dating and mate selection, individuals are concerned with sexually transmitted diseases and other health issues of their mates. This particular research used the survey method wherein the researcher examines data obtained by asking individual questions through interviews or questionnaires. The advantage of this particular method is that the data can be highly reliable and can be obtained from probability samples.  However, the disavantage of this is that the questionnaires must be carefully prepared because it may not provide in-depth information about the subjects or about the context surrounding behavior. The principal dependent variable in this article is whether or not advertiser mentioned health-related words or phrases.. Other variables used are AMM 23 representing Asian man seeking men advertisement number 23, MM which stands for men seeking men and MW as men seeking women. The theoritical orientation of this article is interactionalist.  This kind of orientation is identified because the variables are given representing interactions to each other. The main unit of analysis for this article is that gay men are more likely than straight men to mention health. Finally, this article concludes that regardless of race or sexual preference, men who specifically requested sex were more likely to raise the health issue.

Exploratory Research  When Street Workers Are Mothers

The title of this exploratory research is When Street Workers Are Mothers, written by Christine M. Sloss and Gary W. Harper from the Sexual Behavior Journal published in August 2004.  The hypothesis posed is that many women experience more positive mental health when engaged in dual or multiple roles. The research method used in this particular is secondary. In this method, the advantage is that, it saves time and expense of data collecton as well as it makes historical research possible. The only disadvantage for this is the research has no control over biases in data wherein the data may only partially fit current research needs. In this particular research, variables has been identified such pregnancy and parenting experience, parenting  and street sex work, impact of pregnancy on street sex workers and impact of pregnancy on street sex work. The theoritical orientation identified for this particular research is conflict because variables are researched using individual comparisons. In this article, the main unit of analysis is that women engaged in street sex work are not sex workers alone. Therefore, this article concludes that one of the roles which these women place considerable importance is that of being a mother, a role that this study has demonstrated affects them as ses workers and their street sex works.
