Wittgenstein and the Role of a Prophet

Let us suppose that there is a possible language that uses the word thesis exactly as we use it, except for one condition. There is a type of thesis called an end-thesis. End-thesis put forth the end of theses. Now, in Wittgenstein language game, whenever someone proposed a thesis, they would indicate whether it was of such kind to indicate that no other thesis could then be advanced by anyone else. Now, the end thesis is the final solution. If a philosopher, for example, argues that he has discovered the end-thesis, then he would be contradicting himself.

Now what is the connection of end-thesis with the nature of prophets Let us imagine a group of prophets who came from the ages to express the law of God. Imagine also the last prophet coming to end the activity of preaching the law of God. We may call this prophet the end-prophet because his role is to end the business of using prophets to state the law. Perhaps God has gotten tired of using prophets to reach humanity. It is also possible that God has a new means of communicating his message to humanity. Whatever the case, the end-prophet says do not listen to prophets because God himself has gotten tired of using prophets to reach humanity. The end prophet would contradict himself. Someone may argue that since you are a profit, by your own premise I must not listen to you. The end-prophet would then say, I am not a prophet I am an end-prophet.

Now, what is then the role of a prophet The role of a prophet is to obscure the message of other prophets until such a time that everything contradicts itself. The arrival of an end-prophet puts an end to the cycle of prophetic rejuvenation. In its categorical sense, the role of the prophet according to Wittgenstein is to relay the message of God to humanity. In its epistemological sense, the role of the prophet is to make intelligible what is unintelligible in short, to make clear what is obscure. The end-prophet is a metaphor of confusion. It is also an instrument for affirmation. Indeed, it is quite clear that for Wittgenstein, the role of a prophet is merely to contradict himself.
