Understanding Cultural Competence

The idea of cultural competence within organizations emanates from the continued capacity of organizations to recognize and appreciate the values and principles shared by the workforce in the aspects of production and development. Here, it relates to the aspect of diversity and differences in cultural background in the interplay of organizational dynamics such as facilitation of its corresponding goals and endeavors (NCCC, 2009).

Applying this example to Greenleaf Neighborhood Community Mental Health Center, the organization has provided multi-lingual outreach programs to effectively reach residents who do not speak English. Here, particular training is given to its volunteers and staff to enhance their skills to relate to communities wherein particular consideration is given to language and their ability to convey information effectively.

Here is another example of cultural competency. GNCMHC hires former clients as employees and several clients serve as members of the board to ensure representation of the client population that they serve. Under this procedure, the organization nurtures the capacity of new inputs and ideas to be made available to the organization. This then allows GNCMHC to fully function in shaping what the community needs and develop better utilize these differences in order to shape policies that is adherent to the organizations goals.

Lastly, Greenleaf seeks to consolidate new perspectives to reach out to other agencies and organizations that cultivate the process of providing effective delivery of community-based care. In this approach, Greenleaf looks into its target population and as much as possible tries to accommodate these patients regardless of their ethnicity and cultural background.

Thus, the value of cultural competence as it applies to Greenleaf circumvents in the capacity to recognize the key shareholders in shaping its common goals and objectives.

Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to analyze a case study in regards to the application of addressing changes in the current standards in the provision of mental health care. This case involves Greenleaf Neighborhood Community Mental Health Center (GNCMHC), an agency that was established as a crisis center in the early 1970s. GNCMHC services seek to provide support and facilitation of mental health services to the community at relatively cheaper prices.  To achieve such goals, GNCMHC has established partnership with different organizations and the community itself to find appropriate mechanisms to serve its purpose and goal. However, with todays challenges such as increasing competition, rising costs, and changing standards within mental health services, Greenleaf faces a new hurdle in coming up with new ideas and programs that can help them adapt and respond to these problems accordingly.

Conclusion
To conclude, the ability of GNCMHC to abide by these conditions help shape its ability to respond to the challenges of facilitating its purpose and objectives. Here, it does not only recognize its apparent strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities but also infuse these ideas towards redefining the scope of its ability to pursue its mental health services. Fostering these solutions alongside the involvement of its key stakeholders would create an environment of facilitation that corresponds to the needs of the organization and the people they serve. At the same time, concretizing these objectives into formal patterns of action also results in the ability to utilize the aspects of continuity and stability amidst the growing challenges that GNCMHC face. Thus, all these conditions support the purpose of addressing the needs of patients and better capacity of the organization to function effectively and according to its prescribed standards
