Schooling in the US- Savage Inequality

The differences in schools do exist. Ethnicity and socio-economic background are the central points of the problem. Ethnicity is shown by students attending schools which have majority of the students being of their ethnic background. The social-economic factor makes students of the same social status attend same schools which fits them. The two factors will differentiate schools to the minority and majority with each group attending the one which has the majority of hisher ethnic or socio-economic background. For example the poor students will attend schools which have the majority being poor and the well-off also attending the schools which they are the majority. The poor students are attending schools which do not have enough teachers, less funded and without enough classrooms unlike the well-off students (Kazol, 1991).

The public has little concern on the schooling inequality since they have inherited it and its still in place irrespective of the various court rulings and various recommendations from the educators which justifies the inequalities to be unconstitutional. Success has always been measured by academic qualification which justifies that the people who are well-off will always attend schools with high socio-economic status characterized by quality educational life. They also acquire appropriate skills relevant in the job market which makes them more competitive for the jobs available than the poor students.

The society is the pillar of instilling norms and ethics expected from the schools and should be in the forefront in ensuring that there is equality in the education system. The society should ensure that students from different ethnic and socio-economic class are distributed randomly among the schools available. This will ensure that all the students have an equal chance in accessing the best schools. The environment will be good for positive coexistence among the students within the school and in the society. Resources should be equally distributed to all schools nationwide hence reducing the chances of selecting schools as per the infrastructure, technology and the social life by the students and the teachers. The quality of teachers delivery should be measured by same standards for instance they should all have the same qualifications at every school level. Funds should be distributed fairly to all schools with a lot of it being channeled to poor schools (Macionis, 2007).
