Cross Cultural Study on Pregnancy, Nutrition and High Risk Behaviors Case Study in Egypt

A large section of society will derive much satisfaction in the siring of children. To achieve this noble yearning, the issue of fertility comes into play. Ones fertility determines the likelihood of pregnancy. During this overwhelming yet delicate stage, communities have developed certain practices and believe. The long expected process of birth is treated with zeal. Siring the child, at this point ceases to be the ultimate object one then focuses so much on the upbringing of the baby. The rearing process is long and will always vary from birth to 16-18 years of age. While one will take every pride in childrearing challenges abound and give a directly opposite impression of the same. All said and done, one will always endear to sire and bring up a perfect or near-to-perfect humankind. It is in context that I look at a person as a whole.

Cross Cultural Study on Pregnancy, Nutrition and High Risk Behaviors.
The bringing up of any child is highly influenced by societal beliefs and practices. It was mandatory that one had a child. Any woman who did not appear to be capable of this would content herself with a co wife.

Fertility practices and Pregnancy
Pregnancy is the act of having the young develop in the womb. In Egypt, though, most women asked in a research that was carried out were not for the idea of having children. Ultimately even those who become pregnant, apparently, it happened when they were on contraceptive. However where the pregnancy was accepted, one was treated with a lot of tender care, particularly first born children.  Where pregnancy was not forthcoming, Egyptians had therapies such as the use of honey (Egypt 2009 Crime  Safety Report 2009, overseas security advisory council). The research showed that 86 of the pregnancy problems were largely blamed on the female, though it was not the scientific ideal case. Egyptians are said, in this research to have believed that bigger belies were indicative of a female newborn while the converse gave a male newborn.

Birthing
To any man world over birthing was always long overdue. In Egypt, for instance, birthing was prepared for by buying baby requirements, feeding the expectant woman well, being readily available and saving food and money for this purpose. In cases of a first born child, some communities allowed women to birth from their homes. During the process the mid wife could come in handy.  Ancient Egypt had well recommended midwives, present Egypt however have both registered mid wives and gynecologists alike. Once the birthing is over it becomes not only the family responsibility, but also the responsibility of the community to bring up the child.

Child Rearing and High risk behaviors
Child rearing will involve the process of nurturing an all-round individual. The child has to be facilitated to undergo the development stages. This is where the real task for parenting lies. The child needs to be very secure, be fed well, be shown the right morals and be taken to school. Syphony P, (2002) in Behavior of the Adolescent, A world of information research, Vol. 1 asserts that child rearing entails concerted all-round effort, for the child to be a whole person (Pp 34.). By this assertion developmental factors come into play. In particular the feeding both in antenatal for the mother and postnatal for the mother and the child determine the character of the child.

Nutrition
A journal in Egypt (Ultimate Health, helping you take control of your own health) asserts that the main causes of ill health are nutrition, lifestyle or environmental related, This shows that key in ones personality development is the issue of nutrition. Going by the definition of food, a nutritive substance, then it becomes paramount to look at classes of food. Food can either be used in an individuals body for tissue development, energy creation or providing a disease preventive mechanism. The supply of these foods to the body is paramount yet it should be done with a lot of caution. The extremes will always give contraindications with far reaching effects. Some foods, though as useful to the body system, are surrounded with rituals in some communities. In Egypt children were not expected to eat eggs, poke, and unsanctified meat. (Regardie I, (2001), (Third edition) the tree of life an illustrated study of magic. Llewellyn

Publications. Pp 157). This deprived the children of important food nutrients due to them.
For one to have good health, food should be taken in balanced levels. The proportions in which the different food nutrients are taken should be as medically recommended. Minerals should be fully inculcated into diets. This will go a long way in bringing up an all round healthy individual. This objective left to civil society alone can not be attained government should step in handy and put in place policies that are supportive. A well brought up person is not in itself enough, a follow-up should be undertaken to the letter. Some individuals tend to loose track altogether at adolescence stage. Any such signs should be combated by all means.

At adolescence, one will want to discover and rediscover with their body and other persons body. Adolescents will want to experiment on existing and non-existing phenomena. This leads them into unprecedented trouble. They will find themselves in drugs use and abuse such as tobacco and alcohol. Drinking is divorced from smoking to a relatively small percentage. These vices go hand in hand among adolescence.  A research carried out showed the adolescent drinkers could to a very small extend accept fault. This shows that their character had been tampered. In this research by PlanetPsych.com, it is clear that drinking will affect the personality of an adolescent
Heavy and binge-drinking teenagers and young adults were five times more likely than those who did not drink to admit that they had driven while drunk or while under some other influence  in the past year. (Aston, M. (1998) Ultimate Health, Helping You Take Control of Your Own Health, volume 14
Pp 21).

While some adolescents may take some drugs as recreational, this should not be accepted and should be taken as a far fetched misconception.

Drug use
Largely, when drugs are overused they impair physical activity. Drugs such as tobacco for instance, may bring about tuberculosis which will impair the body reactivity. It becomes evident therefore that an individual who is not brought up well, will not only miss his expectations but also societal ones. Ultimately this will lead to a feeling that will with it bring unwarranted insecurity. The Egyptian Christians and Muslims have had anti-drug crusade asserting that the use of these drugs has largely contributed to the spread of HIV and AIDS. The same drugs normally affect the productivity of the youth. Indeed, the end justifies the means, and if the mature person does not live to the expectation of society, and his own, the whole process of rearing of the person is termed null and void.

Physical activity
At onset the Egyptians could not see any likely link between physical activity and good healthy. However with time they have been able to see the very close relationship. The Egyptian woman was initially nave about the essence of physical activities and wanted to associate it with religion however, with time they have come to accept physical activities as an integral part of their lives.

Safety
Insecurity is highly felt on the roads of Egypt. There have been a number of road fatalities in Egypt and is rated as one with the highest level of road insecurity. Pedestrians are always at risk of swaying motor vehicle. This state is particularly pronounced during winter seasons. There is also a lot of flooding which causes a lot of deaths. The Egyptian fields and stadia are also known for insecure fanatics.  The insecurity takes a number of forms of crime from sexual harassment, pick pocketing, burglaries and political violence. In general, Egypt has such a multifaceted setting. This setting ranges from social, economic to political. The country has put in place policies aimed at ensuring that the residents reap the maximum utility from it.
