Resolution of the global warming issue
The Greatest Generation, also referred to as the G.I Generation, is a term that is used to refer to the generation that grew up in the United States of America during the Great Depression of 1930s. This generation either directly took part in the Second World War by going to the battle front, or made significant indirect contribution towards the war. The Baby Boomers is a term used to refer to the generation that was born after the Second World War. During this period, there was an enormous increase in the child births. However, the exact period in which the Baby Boomers generation was born remains a matter of debate.
The Millennial Generation, also known as Generation Y, is the generation that followed the Baby Boomers. The Millennial Generation was born somewhere between the 1970s and the 1990s, though the precise birth dates of this generation are not precise. This generation represents an increase in the rates of birth since the Baby Boomers had begun to have more children.
Global warming is the continual increase in the average temperature of the earths surface, leading to adverse global climatic changes. Global warming is caused by the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. These gasses are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulphur hexafluoride gasses, water vapor and ozone. Carbon dioxide gas is emitted trough the burning of fuels over the last several years. The increase in the global temperatures causes the sea levels to rise, and increase the frequency and possibility of such adverse weather conditions as floods and hurricanes (Houghton Theodore John, 2004).
The reduction of the global warming effects should start with an individual. Every member of the three generations should be made aware of the harmful effects of global warming so that the decisions made by them, for instance in the purchase of fuels are decisions that work towards the mitigation of global warming. Some of the member states of the United Nations signed the Kyoto Protocol which is a treaty that has the objective of reducing the greenhouse gases to levels that cannot lead to adverse climatic changes. However, United States is not a member of the Kyoto Protocol. The signatories to this treaty commit themselves to reduce greenhouse gasses.
Some of members of the Greatest Generation, who own industries and engage in activities that emit the greenhouse gasses, should make every effort to ensure that the emission of these gasses remains at minimum levels. Most of the members of the Baby Boomers are the leaders in various sectors in the economy. This generation should use its influence and ability to raise awareness of the negative effects of greenhouse gases concentration. The millennial generation includes the working class who should be encouraged to research on the methods that reduce the greenhouse gases.
One of the specific things that should be done is the use of renewable energy such as wind, bio diesel and solar energy should be used instead of using fossil fuels. The new technologies that do not emit greenhouse gasses should be adopted. Where this technology cannot be used, the carbon dioxide sinks should be developed so that the emitted gasses are absorbed into some other system rather than letting the gasses flow to the atmosphere. Population should also be controlled, which is the responsibility of the millennial generation. In conclusion, it can be inferred from the foregoing debate that everybody in the society has role to play towards the reduction of global warming.
